The forested areas of Northern West Bengal (India) present a plethora of Wildlife, a unique area of rich bio-diversity. Imagine, a stretch of land 130 k.m. long by 48 k.m. wide and altitudinal range varies from 60m to 3200m where nature has lavished all her bounties. And you know it's Dooars. The name is derived from the local word "Dooar" i.e. 'door' because of numerous links of this area with neighboring country Bhutan. The Dooars comprises of deciduous forests and grasslands and is home to some of West Bengal's most varied flora and fauna. Here, an unending stretch of virgin forests is crisscrossed by the river Teesta and her innumerable tributaries. Tea Gardens, alpine landscape, transparent river, National Parks and the Wildlife Sanctuary with picture-postcard, log cabin lodges and valleys carpeted with tea gardens creates a paradise. Beautiful motorable roads cut through deep forests, rich with wildlife. Mauve hills stand at the end of velvet green plains. The forests echo with the melody of birds. Most of all, you'll find some nice local people as well as from the Forest Dept.
